On February 25, the Xinjiang Yihua coal gasification project, constructed by CAS Hefei Coal Gasification Technology Co., Ltd. (“ZHGAS”), was featured on Xinjiang News Broadcast as a model project highlighting the Xinjiang Autonomous Region’s strategic focus on leveraging its resource advantages.

From July 21 to 23, the 2021 China Nitrogen Fertilizer and Methanol Technology Conference, hosted by the China Nitrogen Fertilizer Industry Association, was held in Jincheng, Shanxi. At the conference, Yu Kuangshi, General Manager of CAS Hefei Coal Gasification Company under the Chinese Academy of Sciences, presented a report on the “Circulating Fluidized Bed Coal Gasification Technology for Synthetic Gas System Solutions.” The report highlighted the successful application of this technology at Xinjiang Yihua Chemical Co., Ltd.’s 400,000-ton/year synthetic ammonia plant, which achieves 100% use of locally sourced Junggar coal from Xinjiang. The technology fully overcomes challenges related to this coal’s high alkalinity, low ash content, low ash melting point, and special sticky properties. To date, the system has operated continuously and stably for 182 days on a single furnace.

At the 2021 China Nitrogen Fertilizer and Methanol Technology Conference held from July 21 to 23 in Jincheng, Shanxi, CAS Hefei Coal Gasification Technology Co., Ltd. (“ZHGAS”) unveiled a comprehensive environmental technology solution for upgrading coal gasification processes in the synthetic ammonia industry. Based on circulating fluidized bed gasification technology (CGAS), the solution covers the entire production chain—from syngas generation to downstream utilization of gasification fine slag and indirect cooling upgrades for fixed-bed systems—offering small and medium-sized synthetic ammonia producers a cost-effective, high-efficiency, eco-friendly closed-loop system.

On July 23, Gu Zongqin, Chairman of the China Nitrogen Fertilizer Industry Association, Cao Zhanggao, Chief Engineer, Liu Yu, Researcher from the Chinese Academy of Environmental Sciences, and representatives from member companies of the China Nitrogen Fertilizer Industry Association, visited and inspected the clean pressure-fixed-bed gasifier gas cooling project at Shanxi Jinneng Holding Equipment Manufacturing Group’s Jinfeng Company. They expressed their approval of the unit's operational performance.

At the 2021 China (Anhui) Science and Technology Innovation Achievements Expo, the circulating fluidized bed coal gasification (CGAS) technology developed by the Institute of Engineering Thermophysics, Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), drew strong interest from the industry. CAS Hefei Coal Gasification Technology Co., Ltd. (ZHGAS), the company responsible for industrializing the technology, highlighted CGAS as a high-throughput, high-density solution that enables low-cost, energy-efficient coal gasification. It is adaptable to a wide range of coal types, generates minimal “three wastes” (waste gas, water, and solids), and significantly reduces carbon emissions—making it a key technology for the coal chemical industry’s path to carbon peaking and neutrality.
