On May 10, the 'Clean and Efficient Incineration Technology for Ultra-Low Volatility Ultra-Fine Carbon-Containing Fuels', led by the Circulating Fluidized Bed Laboratory of the Institute of Engineering Thermophysics (IET), successfully passed the scientific and technological achievement appraisal. The appraisal meeting was organized by the China Society of Particle Science (CSPS), with an appraisal committee comprising nine authoritative experts from universities and enterprises. Academician Lyu Junfu of Tsinghua University served as the committee chair, while Researcher Ge Wei from the Institute of Process Engineering, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IPE-CAS), and Professor Bie Rushan from Harbin Institute of Technology (HIT) served as vice-chairs. IET Director Chen Haisheng, Academic Committee Member and CFB Laboratory Director Zhu Zhiping, Deputy Director of the Science and Technology Development Division Qiao Xiaohui, and project team members including Researcher Lyu Qinggan

At the meeting, Chen Haisheng delivered a welcome speech on behalf of the project completion unit. Subsequently, Ren Qiangqiang presented the project work report and technical report to the appraisal committee, detailing the technology's R&D process, applications, key achievements, and economic benefits. Committee experts reviewed the materials, conducted thorough inquiries and discussions with the project team, and unanimously concluded that the technology achieved an internationally leading level, approving its certification.

This achievement addresses the large-scale disposal demand for gasification fine ash from fluidized-bed coal gasification. Building upon decades of R&D expertise in circulating fluidized bed (CFB) combustion technology, it tackles critical challenges including ultra-fine fuel flow dynamics, in-furnace heat transfer, and activation of ultra-low volatile fuels. With successful implementation in multiple commercial projects, the 500-ton/day incinerators achieve 99% combustion efficiency. This technology transforms solid waste (gasification fine ash) into resources by generating high-parameter steam for power generation, achieves ultra-low nitrogen oxide emissions without post-treatment, and significantly advances a pivotal solution for high-efficiency, clean, and low-carbon coal utilization in China.

The Linzhou Fengbao Residual Carbon Combustion Disposal Project (hereinafter referred to as 'Linzhou Fengbao'), constructed by Zhongke Hefei Gasification Technology Co., Ltd., utilizes the 'Clean and Efficient Incineration Technology for Ultra-Low Volatility Ultra-Fine Carbon-Containing Fuels'. The project employs a 75 t/h (steam output) circulating fluidized bed (CFB) incinerator to treat gasification fly ash generated during the gas production section. Operational since 2022, it has significantly enhanced the plant's overall energy efficiency and comprehensive utilization of secondary energy, achieving the goals of maximizing energy efficiency and zero emissions. Additionally, the Linzhou Fengbao project served as a key engineering case study in the recent scientific and technological achievement appraisal.
